Meditation

For some years now there has been a developing interest in meditation. However it is not a new activity created by our modern world but a contemplative practice deeply rooted in the past within many cultures and communities.

The growing awareness of the benefits of meditation has given rise to a variety of techniques, all focussed on the same goal, to develop a more peaceful, well-balanced mind.

At our centre in Leeds we run weekly sessions of meditation using a technique called calm abiding. It works by using the rhythm of our natural breathing as a support to help focus our attention. Through this simple redirecting of our thoughts we are able to experience a calmness allowing our minds to slow down. With practice we become accustomed to being more relaxed, paying closer attention to the present moment.

The technique itself is quite simple, gentle and refreshing, all it requires is a little commitment as with anything we want to learn. Comfortable clothing is important and likewise with a sitting position which can be achieved on a cushion or a chair.

Our meditation sessions run every week

and require booking in advance.

The sessions last half an hour and

donations are welcome.
